“Do You Believe in Time Travel?” Inspiration in Art

One of my favorite passions is theoretical physics and I love to explore its concepts in my art.

It all began with a topic in Dr. Michio Kaku’s science forum, known as HYPERSPACE. Do You Believe in Time Travel? My mind was already upon the subject of time, due to two articles at SciScoop.com titled; What is Time? and Side-stepping the Quantum Barrier to Time Travel

Then further inspiration came in the form of a post in the Hyperspace topic regarding the theory by Dr. Ronald. L. Mallett, being referred to as the Time Machine. It involves using a circulating cylinder of light to in essence create gravitational fields. The outer fields, containing closed time-like lines, seem to indicate the possibility of traveling through time into the past. I soon found myself artistically exploring the concept of such an experiment.

I began with a circulating cylinder of light and imagined the effect the generated gravitational fields might create. Inspiring the artwork - Time Machine.

My instinct, gut feeling, tells me that if mankind ever achieves the ability to travel back in time, we are in big trouble! We have enough problems just dealing with the present. To me it would be wiser to go stand in the middle of an open field, holding up a 20-foot steel pipe, during a massive thunderstorm. Inspiring the artwork - Meddling with Space-Time.

As the days went by my mind and the forum discussions pondered many concepts, a few outside of the subject and I began to wonder what other influences might effect such an experiment as the circulating light. Taking into perspective, the theories involving parallel universes, other dimensions, as well as the theory of Dr. Lisa Randall’s gravity brane. I imagined the experiment weakening the fabric of space-time, the very wall to the gravity brane and its gravitational energy feeding the time experiment. I envisioned a wormhole forming, rapidly becoming overloaded, it begins to grow into a wormhole storm. The storm grows, twisting and warping space-time and begins to alter reality. And having learned the hard way many times in life, that often things can and will at times, go wrong… that perhaps due to a simple miscalculation, naught would remain save a lovely spacial rift and the moon - Time Experiment - Slight Miscalculation.

Now none of this is to say I am predicting anything, my mind simply explores many possibilities, the good and the bad, the wonders and possible horrors.

To give you an idea of how my mind works, here is a simple example: Most people think of there being two sides to every coin (borrowing from the old saying)… Me, I think of a coin as having a minimum of 362 sides, heads & tails, plus one side for each degree in the circumference of the outside edge. Then my mind also takes into consideration all the sides involved when taking into account all the text and images stamped in the heads & tails! This is one of the things my art is, explorations of concepts running through my brain.
