The Feathered Dinosaur Nebula
September 28, 2009 on 1:28 pm | In Science, Science Fiction Art, Space Art | Comments Off“Imagination has brought mankind through the dark ages to its present state of civilization. Imagination led Columbus to discover America. Imagination led Franklin to discover electricity.” – L. Frank Baum
As I was returning home from the Brighid Nebula my ships sensors detected a wormhole nearby and I decided to take a little detour to see where it led.
I emerged from the wormhole in utter darkness and didn’t really think anything of it at first. I’ve often come across huge starless voids in my travels. But suddenly I realized there were soft scratching sounds along the Guardians hull and I switched on the lights.

The Feathered Dinosaur Nebula -2009
Artist’s note – Much of my new style of Fractal Illusions has come from exploring and experimenting with pattern combination’s in the fractal software I use (Apophysis). This artwork is the result of such play, working on further developing of my nebula techniques and a bit of an accident. I got distracted as I was bouncing back and forth from this and twitter and I accidentally filled in 3 of the wrong fields rather than the ones I intended to and suddenly I had this. I thought it a rather intriguing accident so decided to render it. Its title was inspired by a science article I had recently read about a new feathered dinosaur fossil having been found in China.

The Am-No-Tanabata-Hime Nebula
September 15, 2009 on 7:58 pm | In Science Fiction Art, Space Art | 2 Comments“We are the miracle of force and matter making itself over into imagination and will. Incredible. The Life Force experimenting with forms. You for one. Me for another. The Universe has shouted itself alive. We are one of the shouts.” Ray Bradbury

The Am-No-Tanabata-Hime Nebula -2009
I like naming my nebula’s the old fashioned way, from legends and mythology. Considering how I think of creating my fractal illusions as light weaving, Am-No-Tanabata-Hime caught my attention as I was researching gods & goddesses from various cultures. It fit seeing as how I had designed in two new stars being woven down in the lower left.

Now for those who are new to my art I imagines many of you are saying… “Weaving stars? Huh? LOL You see, when I was a kid I used to imagine great beings of energy weaving the stars in the night sky

Weaving a Blue Star in the Magellanic Cloud -2007
The idea for my Weaving a Star series came when watching the movie A Knight’s Tale. A major theme in the movie was changing one’s stars (fate) and yet we don’t really change our stars but weave new stars through our drive, determination and ingenuity. But that is the subject of a future post.

Exploring the Syn Nebula
September 14, 2009 on 7:00 pm | In Science Fiction Art, Space Art | 1 Comment“All art is but imitation of nature.” Lucius Annaeus Seneca
I decided to do 2 artworks of the Syn Nebula. No! Not Sin, Syn! As in the goddess of watchfulness and truth from the Norse legends (mythology).

The Syn Nebula -2009
The first view is of a region on the outer portions of this fictional nebula with a single star at its center. This piece is pure fractal illusion created with two fractals, one the nebula and the other the star.

Exploring the Syn Nebula -2009
As I made my way into the interior of the Syn Nebula I spotted two ships ahead in the distance. If the second hadn’t been moving I might not have noticed it at all for it seemed to have a hull that transformed to camouflage it with the background. This artwork is almost pure fractal illusion with the exception of one of the ships is painted in, the other is a fractal.

Weaving the Fabric of Space -2010 (Art)
September 9, 2009 on 11:58 am | In Science Fiction Art, Space Art | Comments Off“Everything that is new or uncommon raises a pleasure in the imagination, because it fills the soul with an agreeable surprise, gratifies its curiosity, and gives it an idea of which it was not before possessed.” Joseph Addison

Weaving the Fabric of Space -2010
Imagine the very outer edge of our expanding universe, a place that is full of mystery, where new stars and nebulae are being woven, adding to the never-ending beauty of space. It is both knowledge and imagination that allows me to take fractals into the realm of illusion and weave the very fabric of space.
Our imagination is perhaps the quintessential element that allows us to learn and to grow in life. Through it we become curious and open our minds to new possibilities. It is what allows us the levels of ingenuity that mankind so often achieves. This is the purpose of my art, not to just be a piece of eye candy for your wall but to inspire your imagination with a piece of my own.

Imagination > Science = SciFi
September 6, 2009 on 3:33 pm | In Science Fiction Art | Comments Off“The bread and butter of science fiction is in the realm of possibility.” Michio Kaku

Azurea -2009
As I was growing up the world of Science Fiction fascinated me just as it has so many others in the world. I love studying the science behind the fiction so that I can understand where concepts such as Gene Roddenberry’s Slipstream come from. Wormhole theory sure has taken great strides within the SciFi universe with shows & movies like Stargate, Farscape and Contact.

Traveling the Intergalactic Freeway -2009
As a SciFi and Space artist I too add my own imagination to the influences of science and theories. String theory is one of my favorites as it opens a wide realm of possibilities to work from. For example the theoretical concept of a Multiverse or Parallel Worlds (universes), with such a concept the possibilities multiply to an infinite number.

Exploring Parallel Universes -2009
In a parallel universe the concept of wormholes rupturing in grand colorful explosions of energy becomes possible. Surely more than one must have such phenomena!

Ruptured Wormhole -08172009
In another those ruptured wormholes could feed upon a strong nearby energy source and grow, spreading out new wormhole tendrils in many directions or even throughout multiple universes.

Wormhole Storm #6 -2009
And of course in such a universe there would surely be Storm Riders! Insane pilots in specially modified star cruisers racing through the ever changing passages.

Storm Rider – Tal Naquir -2008
But my favorite thing about being a SciFi & Space Artist is that on the really BAD DAYS, I can de-stress a little by blowing something up…

The Final April Fools -2009

AND I DON’T GET INTO ANY TROUBLE! LOL

The Uli Nebula -2009
September 5, 2009 on 12:39 pm | In Science Fiction Art | Comments Off“You have to learn the rules of the game. And then, you have to play better than anyone else” – Albert Einstein

The Uli Nebula -2009
I have been exploring the possibility of creating a realistic nebula artwork with but a single fractal for quite some time now and was very happy yesterday to achieve my first success. I named it after Uli, the god of sorcerers in Hawaiian mythology as I thought it fitting for this piece of artistic wizardry. Inspiration in Education
September 4, 2009 on 7:36 pm | In Inspiration in Education, Science Fiction Art, Space Art | Comments Off“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Within a Sea of Blue – Inspirational Poster
For those who have not visited my site before I’d like to introduce you a new style of art I call Fractal Illusion. As a disabled artist there are many hardships in trying to rebuild my life but through drive, determination and a fair amount of imagination and ingenuity I came to pioneer this new form of fractal art. The old saying “necessity is the mother of invention” is still true in the modern world.
I thought my new artwork today would make an excellent one to use to begin a new series of Inspiration in Education posters that is an idea I’ve been running through my head for the last few weeks. Since fractal art is a mathematical art form this illusion of a beautiful blue nebula is created with math and its aesthetic beauty a perfect way to awaken the imagination and minds of young people.

Gravitational Light and Time Travel – Inspiration in art
September 2, 2009 on 7:32 pm | In Science, Science Fiction Art | Comments Off“If we could travel into the past, it’s mind-boggling what would be possible. For one thing, history would become an experimental science, which it certainly isn’t today. The possible insights into our own past and nature and origins would be dazzling. For another, we would be facing the deep paradoxes of interfering with the scheme of causality that has led to our own time and ourselves. I have no idea whether it’s possible, but it’s certainly worth exploring.” – Carl Sagan, NOVA interview, Oct. 12, 1999

Gravitational Light – Time Loops © 2008
My art series Gravitational Light was inspired by the theoretical concept of time travel using a circulating cylinder of light to create gravitational forces. Dr. Ronald L. Mallett theorizes that the exterior gravitational field would contain closed time-like lines, which would indicate the possibility of time travel into the past.

Gravitational Light – Window in Time © 2009
I love the concept of manipulating space-time in such a manner and it has become one of my favorites to explore artistically. Being that fractals are a mathematical art form I have found it fascinating to explore visual patterns of light.

Meddling with Space-Time © 2008
Now in a science concept like time travel one must take into consideration all the possibilities. My instinct (gut feeling) tells me that if mankind ever achieves the ability to travel back in time, we are in big trouble! We have enough problems just dealing with the present. To me it would be wiser to go stand in the middle of an open field, holding up a 20-foot steel pipe, during a massive thunderstorm.

After all, we really wouldn’t want to erase human civilization from the universe would we?
